Terms of Service

Last updated: February 2026

Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Tempo ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you don't agree to these terms, please don't use the Service.

What Tempo Does

Tempo is an engineering metrics platform that connects to your development tools - GitHub, GitLab, Jira, and Linear - and calculates metrics about your development workflow. This includes PR cycle time, review time, deploy frequency, and other engineering productivity metrics.

Tempo reads metadata from your repositories and projects (pull requests, commits, deployments, issues) but never accesses your source code content.

Tempo also analyses commit metadata to detect AI tool usage (e.g. Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) and supports a solo mode for individual developers who want to track their own metrics without creating a team organization.

Your Account

To use Tempo, you need to:

  • Sign in with a Google account
  • Have appropriate permissions to connect the repositories or projects you want to track
  • Provide accurate information about yourself and your organization

You're responsible for maintaining the security of your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to access data belonging to other users or organizations
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the Service beyond what's provided through normal use
  • Resell or redistribute access to the Service without permission

Your Data

You retain ownership of all data you provide to Tempo, including your repository and project metadata. By using the Service, you grant us a license to process this data to provide the Service to you.

We handle your data as described in our Privacy Policy. In short: we don't sell your data, we don't access your source code, and we only use your data to provide the Service.

Email Communications

Tempo may send you weekly email summaries of your engineering metrics. You can opt out of these emails at any time in your account settings.

Integrations

Tempo connects to development tools including GitHub, GitLab, Jira, and Linear. By connecting an integration, you:

  • Authorize us to access repository or project metadata (not code content)
  • Agree to the respective provider's terms regarding third-party applications
  • Can revoke access at any time through your account settings or the provider's settings

Tempo CLI

Tempo CLI is an optional open-source tool (Apache 2.0 license) that runs locally on your machine as a Git hook. It detects AI tool usage per commit with file-level attribution by reading local session data. Only structured attribution metadata (tool name, model, matched file paths) is sent to the Tempo API - no source code, diffs, or prompts ever leave your machine.

Use of the Tempo CLI is entirely optional and does not affect your use of the Tempo web service.

Service Availability

We strive to keep Tempo available 24/7, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

  • Scheduled maintenance (we'll try to notify you in advance)
  • Unplanned outages
  • Issues with third-party services (GitHub, GitLab, Jira, Linear, Google Cloud)

Pricing and Payment

Tempo is free during early access. If we introduce paid plans in the future, we'll notify existing users and provide reasonable notice before any charges apply.

Intellectual Property

The Tempo service, including its design, features, and branding, is owned by us. You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works based on the Service without permission.

Limitation of Liability

Tempo is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the Service is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months (or $100 if you haven't paid anything).

Termination

You can stop using Tempo at any time by disconnecting your integrations and closing your account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms.

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you via email or through the Service. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the new terms.
